Supernatural first-person game for PC

Into the Pit is a premium action game developed by Nullpointer Games for PC. It is a first-person roguelike that tells the story of an ancient family of lore-hunting mystics. In it, players are summoned to a cursed village and rid of the demonic portal haunting it.

Just like Doom, Into the Pit plays like an arena shooter, with frantic skill-based combat. However, instead of guns, players rely on magical spells as their weapons similar to Ziggurat 2. It also boasts of impressive graphics and an art style that can be described as a gory explosion of color.

Victorian horrors

Into the Pit is basically Doom but more magical. In it, you belong to a family of mystics and have been called to a new assignment in some cursed Victorian-like village. An acolyte named the Alderman has been luring people into a demonic portal known as The Pit. Dive into the dark realm yourself to rescue any survivors, learn its mysteries, and gain new powers in the process.

One of the first things you'll notice as you play the game is its art which is part-color painting and part-slaughterhouse. You have a whole slew of magical spells at your disposal and each enemy you defeat is a flashing and vibrant display of chaos. Being a roguelike, you will be dying a lot, but rescuing villages will unlock shops to purchase permanent upgrades for your next run.

What's more, you get to collect various keys and runes throughout your journey. Combine them in different ways to generate dungeon levels yourself to add some variety to your runs. Speaking of, there's a noticeable lack of content for the game as you near the end of your runs. A typical playthrough is rather short, and this is compounded by the fact that combat feels repetitive after a while.

Burn bright, burn fast

Into the Pit is an arena roguelike shooter that’s brimming with style and appeal. From the moment you boot it up, it is a visual treat to behold and solid combat to back it up. However, these things aren’t enough to make up for the fact that it sorely lacks content. Until more things get added, there's not much to pull you back in after your short stint with it.

PROS

  • Distinct art style
  • Fun and fast-paced combat
  • Built-in dungeon generator

CONS

  • Short and lacks content
  • Gets repetitive after a while
